Jason Reitman to Direct Secret ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie
Sony Pictures is getting the wheels in motion for the next installment in the “Ghostbusters” franchise, and it knows who it’s going to call to direct: Jason Reitman.

Sources tell Variety that Reitman, whose father, Ivan, directed the first two “Ghostbusters” movies, will direct the latest pic in the famous franchise.

Reitman has also co-written a screenplay with Gil Kenan and plans to shoot the film this summer, with Sony planning to release the latest sequel in summer 2020. Insiders say this film will be a continuation of the 1984 sequel and will not be connected to the 2016 film. Sources couldn’t say if that means that the original cast members will be back, as exact story details are still being kept under wraps.

Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Pictures is producing and insiders close to Ivan say he believes this film is a passing of the torch.

Christopher McQuarrie Turned Down a Number of DC Film Projects To Direct The Next Two Mission: Impossible Films

Christopher McQuarrie Turned Down a Number of DC Film Projects To Direct The Next Two Mission: Impossible Films
Yesterday we learned the exciting news that Christopher McQuarrie would return to direct Tom Cruise in two more Mission: Impossible sequels that he would shoot back-to-back. I expected at least one more sequel, but getting the news that there would be two of them was pretty cool!

McQuarrie is obviously very committed to the franchise. He’s so committed, in fact, that he turned down several offers to direct other movies for various studios that courted him. According to THR, Warner Bros. "even tried to seduce him with DC projects." But, McQuarrie ended up choosing to turn down these opportunities so that he could continue to work on the M:I franchise, which he obviously loves!

While it would have been great to see McQuarrie take on a DC project, the DC films aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and WB will still be making DC movies when McQuarrie is done working on the M:I franchise.

2019 Best Original Song Oscars Predictions

This is one of the tougher Best Original Song fields to guage in some time. “Shallow” is obviously in and then, in theory, so is “All the Stars” from “Black Panther.” The rest is debatable. We doubt the branch will snub a track from “Mary Poppins Returns” or a gorgeous ballad from Dolly parton. That leaves an almost wide-open battle for the fith slot and, in that case, it’s always safe to go with a Diane Warren track, in this case “I’ll Fight” from “Rbg.” [Posted Jan.

Childish Gambino Surprises Beverly Hills Crowd With Reimagined ‘Redbone’

Childish Gambino Surprises Beverly Hills Crowd With Reimagined ‘Redbone’
Donald Glover made an unexpected appearance at Film Independent’s “An Evening With…” series tonight (Jan. 15), held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Beverly Hills and presented by the HFPA. Joining “Black Panther” composer and Childish Gambino collaborator Ludwig G?ransson, who was the subject of a Q&A conducted by “The Treatment” host Elvis Mitchell, Glover emerged wearing a burgundy track suit and sunglasses to rousing applause and launched into the hit song “Redbone,” which had been rearranged by G?ransson’s wife Serena to include a string quintet along with African conga in addition to the traditional electric bass, guitar and keyboards.

The performance was the last in the hour-long event highlighting G?ransson’s work. Earlier in the evening, a drum ensemble performed score music from pivotal scenes in “Black Panther,” as did the quintet. G?ransson also led band members in music he composed for the movie “Creed,

Jason Reitman Will Write and Direct New ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel

Jason Reitman Will Write and Direct New ‘Ghostbusters’ Sequel
After laying dormant for a few decades, the world of “Ghostbusters” is looking at its second major entry in a five-year span. To help bring the latest installment to life, a new sequel in the franchise is turning to a familiar name. Variety reports that Jason Reitman is planning to direct another “Ghostbusters” film that could arrive in theaters as soon as next summer.

Reitman would be the third director to take the reins of a live-action “Ghostbusters” film, following his father Ivan, who direct the first two, and Paul Feig, who oversaw the 2016 gender-swapped reboot. This new Reitman project would not be a continuation of the Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy-led storyline, but the 1984 original.

The younger Reitman would also serve as a co-writer on this latest film, along with Gil Kenan, who previously brought a story of the supernatural to life with the Oscar-nominated animated feature “Monster House.
